Day One - Paris
Day One in Paris has set the bar exceedingly high for the rest of the trip. It was a beautiful day in an amazingly beautiful city. We got into the city from the airport around noon. We took the Metro to the Eiffel Tower and went on a 3 hour guided bicycle tour with Fat Tire Bike Tours. It couldn’t have been better. In the small-world department, one of the people working in the office of the bike tour company was from LaCrosse.
We had dinner at a delightful little restaurant about 3 blocks from the hotel. We spent quite a bit of time talking about the U.S. presidential campaign with the two young women at the table next to us. One of them was from Paris, the other Chicago. They met 10 years ago in Miami and became and stayed friends. The Chicagoan is an electronic musician; she had done a show in Paris the night before and was on her way to London for another.
The whole day was simply magical.
No specific plans for today yet, but it seems possible that there’s still some fun left to be had here. We fly to Rome early tomorrow morning.
