Days 3 and 4 Rome
Sunday started with a 4:30 wakeup call at our hotel in Paris and ended at midnight at our apartment in Rome. It was a tiring and fantastic day. Lots and lots and lots of walking both yesterday and today (on the order of 20 miles). We slept in until 10:30 this morning, had breakfast and set out walking again. We’re at an internet cafe near our apartment now. We’ve been to the grocery store (basement of a department store) for some breakfast items. We’ll drop this stuff off and then go out for dinner. There are many wonderful places to eat per block in this part of Rome (Trastevere); it’s impossible to find a bad meal.
So far, this trip has greatly exceeded our expectations, which were high to start with. The weather, the accommodations, the food, the wine, the sights, the travelling companions: all perfect. Our apartment is amazingly charming.
Two more days in Rome and then it’s up to Cinque Terra via train for two nights. We’ll pick up a rental car there and then figure out where to go for week 2. Decisions, decisions.
I see that a flash drive can be plugged into the computers here, so I’ll get some pix off the camera and post them tomorrow, time permitting.
